Root & Install TWRP on Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus

There’s no doubt that Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 plus are one of the best phones of all time. Galaxy S8 has everything that a 2017 phone needs like arguably best display, design, camera. But you may still be limited by the software and you want to do some tweaking to your os you need to install a custom recovery and root your device. In this step by step guide today I am going to show you how to Root & Install TWRP on Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus Exynos version.

 

Note: This guide is for only the Exynos variant. It won’t work for the Snapdragon variant of any region so try this on a Snapdragon version of S8.

How to Install TWRP:

  1. Go to Settings -> About device. Tap 7 times on Build number to enable Developer options.
  2. Go to Settings -> Developer options and enable OEM Unlock option.
  3. Install Samsung USB Drivers.
  4. Install Odin on your PC.
  5. Reboot your device to download mode.
    * Hold [VOLUME DOWN] + [BIXBY] + [POWER] for approx. 15 seconds.
    * Press [VOLUME UP] to get into Download mode.
  6. Open Odin and place that TWRP tar file in the [AP] slot.
  7. Connect your phone to your PC.
  8. Hold [VOLUME UP] + [BIXBY] + [POWER] on your phone and then press start on Odin. Hold [VOLUME UP] + [BIXBY] + [POWER] until you are booted into the TWRP.
  9. You have successfully installed TWRP on your phone.

 

How to Setup TWRP for the First Time:

  1. Here you’ll see the TWRP asking you if you want to allow system modifications.
  2. Select “Keep /system RO”. (Don’t swipe right or you may not be able to boot into the system.)
  3. Go to “Wipe” menu of TWRP and you will find “Format Data”. Press “Format Data” and type “yes” to continue.
  4. Go to “Reboot” menu and Press “Recovery” to reboot TWRP.
  5. Download the latest dm-verity and force encryption disabler zip on your computer.
  6. Transfer this file to your phone’s internal or external storage.
  7. Go to “Install” menu of TWRP and flash the zip.
  8. You are now good to go.

 

How to Root:

  1. Transfer the zip to your phone.
  2. Boot intro TWRP.
  3. Go to “Install” menu of TWRP and flash the zip.
  4. Congratulations you are now rooted.
